Mission: Provide inner city youth advanced educational tools for learning STEM fields of study
Grace Hopper Stem Academy - Inglewood, California
The AEI mission is currently operating within the inner city communities of Los Angeles, California. The program uses virtual reality instruction to inspire a heightened interest in science and mathematics among students, using a group participatory method, which teaches them how to build virtual worlds and interactive educational games.
As a child, Gary developed a passion for computing and music that went far beyond the classroom. He often felt restricted by conventional school and began studying entire computer science books while playing guitar and sound engineering. His thirst for knowledge led him to the development of an autonomous learning model that was years ahead of its time. Only recently has computing power finally reached the point to see his many inventions become a reality. With the release of the first online portal to offer opportunity as a deliverable, Gary has positioned the every growing masses of people seeking work or better work to take advantage of the current explosion in technically related jobs.
Mr. Mapes studied artificial intelligence and operations research as a Flood Fellow in the PhD program at the University of California at Berkeley. He received an MBA, magna cum laude from the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird) and graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. from the University of Cincinnati with a Major in Economics and Computer Programming. Over the years, he has lived and worked in Europe (England, France, Germany) and Asia (Japan, China) and has studied multiple languages. He currently resides in Los Angeles and has a 230 acre ranch in Santa Barbara that he is developing into a center for advanced ideas in ecological development.
